Captain's Inn: Print
About the Artwork:
This painting is homage to the boat rides I used to take on my Grandfather’s speed boat down the shore, when I was a child. I have vivid memories of watching the boat’s wake in the water from the back bench. I would turn around and let the ocean mist spray in my face, while my hair blew around like wild. I remember the smell of ocean brine, salt, seaweed and marine life surrounding me.
A wake is the wave a boat generates as it moves through the water. The wake disperses an amount of energy based on the boat’s speed and the amount of water the boat displaces.
I was both allured and frightened by the robust power of the wake. Simultaneously, the rhythm of the wake was meditative and enjoyable. I was surprised that something could bring about so many mixed feelings within me.
The original painting is available here.
